IBPS CLERK CWE Prelims Exam - Pattern, Syllabus, Eligibility and Tips
Updated : 10-Nov-2017IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) conducts a common written exam or CWE each year for the recruitment of clerical cadre in various banks branches all over the country. All public sector banks branches use CWE as a base to fill the vacancies for this post.
IBPS conducts Clerk exam each year since 2010 and names each exam according to its year, for example exam of 2013 becomes IBPS clerk CWE 3 and so on. The IBPS Clerk CWE exam has two stages of selection- preliminary exam and mains. Students who qualify in both of these exams are selected for the post.
ELIGIBILITY OF IBPS CWE CLERK
The aspirant must fulfill the required following 2 criteria to stand eligible for the IBPS Clerk CWE Exam:
- Age Limit: The candidate must be between the ages of 20 Years to 28 Years. The final criteria for IBPS Clerk Exam will be notified by the IBPS when the notification is released.
- Educational Qualification: A candidate must have the minimum qualification of Graduation in any discipline through a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government of the country. The aspirant should have scored passing marks in English as one of the subjects at SSC/ HSC/Intermediate/ Graduation level. Candidate should also have a certificate in proof of passing the qualifying examination.
PATTERN FOR IBPS CWE CLERK EXAM
Major changes have been observed each year in the Exam Pattern of IBPS Clerk Exam. The maximum duration and the total number of questions mentioned in Mains Examination of IBPS Clerk CWE Exam have been revised. IBPS Clerk Mains Exam will now constitute of 190 questions that needs to be completed in a time frame of 160 minutes and this can change every year as per the rules of the IBPS
Previously, Computer Aptitude and Reasoning Ability Section were conducted separately. But after the IBPS have changed some rules, both these sections are conducted together and will constitute of fifty questions that needs to be solved in time duration of forty five minutes. Both prelims Exam and Mains Exam will be conducted bilingually, i.e. both in English and in Hindi. Mentioned below is the latest pattern:

SYLLABUS OF IBPS CWE CLERK EXAM
The major 3 sections of the prelims examination are Reasoning, English Language and Numerical Ability. All of the 3 sections have multiple subheadings to keep an eye on when preparing for IBPS Clerk CWE.
The syllabus for Reasoning, Numerical Ability and English Language is same for mains and preliminary exam. In addition to these two the other subjects are General Awareness and Computer Knowledge. NEGATIVE MARKING
There is a penalty for wrong answers marked in both prelims examination as well as in mains examination. If your answer is a wrong answer to an objective question, then this will lead to a penalty of one-fourth of the total mark assigned to that question. There won’t be any penalty if a candidate doesn’t answer a question and leaves it as a blank
SCORE CALCULATION
The final score for the IBPS Clerk CWE exam is calculated by keeping the below mentioned points in mind:
- Marks obtained in the Preliminary Exam will not be considered for selection.
- The candidates must qualify for the mains exam in order to clear the selection.
- Out of 100, the aggregate score is used for the final merit list for each category. Candidates who top the merit list are selected for further recruitment processes
ADMIT CARD AND CALL LETTER
Candidates can download the IBPS Clerk admit card from the bank’s official website as the hard copy of the IBPS Clerk Admit Card will not be sent to the candidate via post as soon as possible. To login on the official website the candidates have to follow the below mentioned points:
- Registration No or Roll No
- Date of Birth or Password
The admit card will be made available 10 to 15 days before the IBPS Clerk Exam. The admit card or call letter for IBPS Clerk will be issued in 3 phases:
- Online prelims Examination
- Online Mains Examination
TIME MANAGEMENT
You should follow the below mentioned strategy to attempt IBPS Clerk CWE Mains for scoring well with clearing sectional cut offs. A total of two hour is allotted for all the 5 sections in this examination. To qualify each section and to score overall good marks, time management is a very important task to overcome. Make a target time duration and try to complete it ASAP to improve in the speed and accuracy quality. Time management strategy for each section is mentioned below.
