• Know About CLAT

    Common Law Admission Test, which is commonly known as CLAT is a national level entrance exam. 

    It is usually commenced once in a year in the month of May. Here, it is organized for granting admission in Integrated L.L.B and L.L.M courses offered by 18 Indian National Law Universities. 

    Now for this year, examination is being organized by the Chanakaya National Law University, Patna. 

    Though, last year (2016) it was managed by the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. From the 1st January, CLAT registration starts. 

    CLAT has few new changes - 

    • For general candidates, the upper age limit is 20 years and 22 years for reserved categories to apply for CLAT examination.

    • Also Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur has been added in the list of 18 NLUs.

    • However, the admission/counselling process is being organized in only four rounds.

    What is the process of CLAT registrations? 

    •From the 1st January, the CLAT Application forms are available.

    •However, before filling the application form interested candidates should be ready with their scanned documents of photograph, signature, SC/ST/SAP certificate (if applicable) and domicile certificate (if applicable).

    •Well, the last date for submission of the filled application form is generally 31st March.

    •Keep in mind that there is no need to send the application form through offline process.

    What is the ‘Eligibility Criteria’?

    The eligibility criteria for UG and PG courses are - 

    1. For UG Programme:

    • Firstly, candidate has to qualify their higher secondary or equivalent examination with the minimum 45% marks (in case of Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories) and 40% marks (in case of SC/ST category).

    • Those who are appearing candidates of Class higher secondary or equivalent examination in March/April are also eligible to appear in the entrance exam.

    • However, at the time of admission the candidates would have to produce an evidence of their passing qualifying examination.

    • Please Note: The upper age limit to appear in CLAT is 20 years (for Unreserved/NRIs/NRI Sponsored categories candidates) and 22 years (for reserved categories).

    2.For PG Programme:

    • For this all candidates must be passed the LL.B or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks (Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories) and 50% marks (SC/ST category).

    • Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to appear CLAT.

    • Well, candidates would have to produce the evidence of their qualifying examination at the time of admission.

    •However, there is no upper age limit for PG courses.

    1.UG Programme:

    • The entrance exam is being held through online process.

    • It will be a computer based test (CBT) too.

    • The medium of examination will be of language English.

    • The question paper will be of total 200 marks.

    • However, for each correct answer 1 mark will be given to the candidate and 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

    • The total time duration of this entrance exam will be of two hours.

    2.For PG Programme:

    • These programs also held through online process.

    • It will be a computer based test (CBT).

    • English language will be the medium of examination.

    • The paper will be of total 2 Hours duration.

    • The candidate will be awarded for 1 mark for each correct answer and there will be a provision for 0.25 negative marking for every incorrect answer too.

    Syllabus for CLAT - 

    The whole syllabus of the CLAT Entrance Exam will be prepared by the conducting university. Here are the topics of the syllabus –
